Celebrating 30 years of INFARMED in Portugal

INFARMED, I.P. is the National Authority of Medicines and Health Products in Portugal and the funder and leading institute of EATRIS Portugal. The staff recently celebrated its 30 years of activity with a celebratory session with many high-level guests.

15 January 2023 saw the 30-year celebration of  INFARMED, I.P. To celebrate the occasion, a session was held on 19 January 2023 with distinguished speakers from Portugal and beyond. The president of Portugal, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, gave a speech in which he noted the great pleasure of accompanying the 30th anniversary of INFARMED, I.P., an institution with “three decades of a rich past and full of remarkable moments”.

In his anniversary address, Rui Santos Ivo (the President of the Executive Board of INFARMED, I.P,) also highlighted the importance of international partnerships: “I would like to thank our national and European partners, namely from the European networks, for their invaluable collaboration, the steps taken in partnership and the joint effort in favour of public health.”

The anniversary session programme was also marked by a keynote speech given by the European Commission’s Director-General for Health, Sandra Gallina, on how to shape the future of medicines and medical devices. It also included a round table discussion on the theme “Collaborating and communicating together is the answer”, in which the Executive Director of the European Medicines Agency, Emer Cooke, the Director of the Spanish Agency for Medicines and Health Products, Maria Lamas and others participated.
