Brief description
The Germans Trias i Pujol Research Institute (IGTP) is a public research centre within the Can Ruti Campus for Biomedical Research, in Badalona (Barcelona). IGTP’s mission is to create a multi‐disciplinary and multi‐institutional environment that opens the gates to highly efficient translational research with a view to improving people’s health and quality of life.

The Institute, founded in 1995, is attached to one of the large teaching hospitals in the Barcelona area, the Germans Trias University Hospital. It is accredited as a Centre of Excellence of Catalonia under de CERCA and supervised by the Catalonian Government. Also, the IGTP is accredited as a Centre of Excellence by the Instituto Carlos III (Spanish Government) and in this capacity acts as an umbrella organization for scientific research on the campus, where it works closely with the other research institutions and the Germans Trias University Hospital, a situation that makes our campus an ideal focal point for synergies and attraction of talent.
More than 3,500 health professionals work in the Campus and over 700 are dedicated to research. Scientists work in 9 different areas of interest and publish an average of over 700 papers a year, contribute to improved treatment and healthcare protocols, produce patents and set up spin-off companies in order to improve the lives of patients. Besides, state of the art technological platforms including the new Centre of Comparative Medicine and Bioimage (CMCiB) provides a unique environment for cutting edge biomedical research.

Germans Trias i Pujol Research Institute (IGTP) is an EATRIS Expert Centre.
