EATRIS Portugal in the spotlight

In 2024 Portugal was selected to participate in the Spotlight Programme, a recently launched initiative by EATRIS, to showcase the countries’ scientific excellence and capabilities, at national and international level.

The EATRIS-PT institutions and national coordination at Infarmed started planning the programme during the annual meeting on 2 October 2024. In a creative and collaborative effort, a common topic for the Portuguese programme was defined: Bridging gaps in healthcare: developing solutions across the lifespan.

Our national institutions were invited to propose events (workshops, seminars or webinars) respecting the following premises:

  1. All proposed events should be co-organised by at least two national members throughout the country,
  2. Should include the participation of members from other EATRIS nodes,
  3. Should also include patients’ associations and stakeholders.

The vision of EATRIS-PT coordination in developing this programme is to bring attention to and highlight the national institutions, while fostering collaborations inside and across borders. As a result, an exciting agenda of eight events will be carried out between May and November 2025, covering topics from preclinical research to clinical trials, representing the EATRIS platforms. EATRIS-PT has received the EATRIS Node Reward for the commitment to supporting EATRIS’ goals on three occasions (2021, 2022, 2024), and the associated financial prize will be used to support the institutions organising the Portuguese Spotlight programme. All eight events will be open to the entire EATRIS community and beyond, and we welcome everyone to participate!
