On October 25th, EATRIS and I3 Health (Belgium) co hosted a meeting on developing curricula in Translational Medicine at Schiphol (Amsterdam).

Besides EATRIS and I3 Health, theUniversity of Padua was represented as well as the following EATRIS institutions: IBBL (Luxembourg), ITMT (Czech Republic), VHIR (Spain), FIMM (Finland), University of Lubljana (Slovenia).

In preparation of the meeting, participants were asked to fill in a survey on current and future training initiatives at their institutions and the results of this survey were shared during the meeting.

In the afternoon, main subject areas for developing education and training for the next generation were identified using the existing CCOMEND competency profile. Strategy was discussed on how to collaborate and create joint faculty, activities and materials. At the end of the day, the following short and long term next steps were identified:

1.Exploration of contribution of short components to the free C-COMEND e-learning by each institution (free enrolment at  http://elevatehealth.eu/course/landscape-translational-medicine)

2.Develop a one week course in translational medicine targeted to senior scientists. The course will be financed by participant fees to cover travel expenses of the faculty and supported by in-kind contribution of faculty and organizers.

3.Identify whether there are opportunities to fund more comprehensive activities/trainings e.g. via Erasmus+ and Coordinations & Support Actions

We are looking forward to join forces in educating and training the next generation of translational scientists!
