TRANSCAN-4 represents the next phase of a long-standing European collaboration dedicated to advancing translational cancer research. Building on previous TRANSCAN initiatives, the project will strengthen international cooperation between funding organisations and support high-impact, patient-centred research across Europe and beyond.

The project will prepare and implement four joint transnational calls, enabling collaborative research projects that address key challenges in cancer research and care. It places strong emphasis on patient involvement, support for early-career researchers, and the expansion of global cooperation between research funders.

TRANSCAN-4 will also contribute to the long-term sustainability of cancer research collaboration in Europe by developing a Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda and laying the foundations for a future co-funded European partnership. The project is closely aligned with the EU Mission on Cancer and Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan, helping ensure that research outcomes are relevant, impactful, and responsive to patient needs.

Consortium

The TRANSCAN-4 consortium brings together national and regional funding organisations, research institutions, and international partners committed to advancing translational cancer research.

The partnership includes 29 organisations from Europe and beyond, including ministries, funding agencies, research institutions, and infrastructures such as EATRIS ERIC.

This broad network ensures strong alignment of research priorities, efficient coordination of funding efforts, and the ability to deliver impactful, cross-border cancer research

EATRIS’ Role in the Project

EATRIS supports TRANSCAN-4 through its expertise in translational medicine and its experience in connecting academia, industry, healthcare stakeholders, and research infrastructures.

By providing access to advanced translational research services and expertise across Europe, EATRIS helps strengthen the translational pipeline and supports the effective translation of research outputs into clinical and societal impact.
