ECHoS 2 – Establishing Cancer Mission Hubs: beyond Networks and Synergies

Project Acronym ECHoS 2
Funding Programme Horizon Europe
Budget €15,079,639.52
Coordinator AICIB - Agencia de Investigacao Clinica e Inovacao Biomedica
Project Duration 1 July 2026 – 30 June 2031

ECHoS 2 (Establishing Cancer Mission Hubs: beyond Networks and Synergies) builds on the initial ECHoS initiative to strengthen and scale up National Cancer Mission Hubs (NCMHs) across Europe. The project aims to transform these hubs into sustainable, collaborative ecosystems that connect research, healthcare, policy, and society, enabling coordinated action against cancer.

The project directly supports the implementation of the EU Mission on Cancer by reinforcing collaboration across sectors and governance levels. National Cancer Mission Hubs act as key conveners, bringing together policymakers, researchers, clinicians, patients, and citizens to turn strategic objectives into concrete national and regional actions.

ECHoS 2 focuses on capacity building, long-term sustainability, and the development of a structured European network of hubs. Through initiatives such as the ECHoS Academy and demonstrator projects, it promotes mission-driven collaboration and supports the transition from pilot activities to long-lasting systemic impact.

Consortium

The ECHoS 2 consortium brings together stakeholders from across Europe, including national health and research authorities, research organisations, healthcare providers, infrastructures, and civil society actors.

The partnership spans 29 countries and ensures strong geographical coverage and cross-sector collaboration, enabling alignment between policy, research, and healthcare systems at European, national, and regional levels.

EATRIS’ role in the project

EATRIS contributes to ECHoS 2 as part of a broader ecosystem of European research infrastructures supporting cancer research and innovation.

Through its expertise in translational medicine, EATRIS helps connect research, clinical application, and innovation ecosystems, helping to bridge gaps between scientific discovery and patient benefit.

By contributing to collaboration, capacity building, and innovation uptake, EATRIS plays a role in strengthening the overall impact of the project and supporting the development of sustainable, mission-driven cancer research frameworks across Europe.
