TransBioNet – Accelerating Biomedical Translation through a European Network of Knowledge Valorisation Intermediaries

Project Acronym TransBioNet
Funding Programme Horizon Europe
Budget Associação Accelbio
Coordinator €1,964,375.00
Project Duration 1 September 2026 – 31 August 2029

TransBioNet: Accelerating Biomedical Translation through a European Network of Knowledge Valorisation Intermediaries aims to establish the first pan-European network of knowledge valorisation intermediaries dedicated to drug discovery and biomedical innovation. The project addresses fragmentation in Europe’s translational research ecosystem by connecting regional clusters, pan-European research infrastructures, accelerators, and innovation intermediaries into a coordinated European support network.

The project will develop a comprehensive ecosystem of tools and services to support translational research and early-stage biomedical innovation. Core outputs include the TransBioNet Digital Platform, a European Infrastructure Atlas, a Valorisation Assessment Toolkit, a Digital Training Academy, and a Community of Practice for translational intermediaries.

TransBioNet is structured around six strategic pillars: re-shaping EU policies for innovation, connecting infrastructures, tooling-up for valorisation, growing skills and community, boosting translational science and researchers, and ensuring sustainability beyond the project.

The project also launches two Open Calls supporting 12 early-stage drug discovery projects through mentoring, bootcamps, infrastructure access, and financial support for translational validation activities.

By strengthening collaboration, harmonising translational support practices, and improving access to infrastructures and expertise, TransBioNet aims to accelerate the translation of biomedical discoveries into market-ready therapies while increasing participation from Widening countries and underrepresented regions.

Consortium

The TransBioNet consortium brings together European clusters, research infrastructures, innovation intermediaries, accelerators, and translational medicine experts with complementary expertise in biomedical valorisation, drug discovery, innovation ecosystems, regulatory science, training, and technology transfer.

The partnership combines strong capabilities in translational medicine, digital platform development, stakeholder engagement, mentoring, training, dissemination, and exploitation activities. The consortium also places strong emphasis on cross-border collaboration and participation from Widening countries to strengthen Europe’s biomedical innovation ecosystem.

EATRIS’ role in the project

EATRIS plays a central role in TransBioNet by leading the development and deployment of the TransBioNet Digital Platform, which integrates the Valorisation Toolkit, Infrastructure Atlas, matchmaking functionalities, and training resources.

EATRIS also leads content curation and platform integration activities and coordinates the establishment of the Community of Practice, supporting continuous peer learning and collaboration among intermediaries across Europe.

In addition, EATRIS contributes expertise in translational medicine, regulatory science, infrastructure access, and digital training, including support for the European Infrastructure Atlas, training and cascade-delivery activities, policy alignment activities, and mentoring support for open call projects.
