The NBPS is a unique translational research structure dedicated to neurodegenerative disorders and to the development of the central nervous system in children.

It brings together a clinical department of pediatric neurology, an adult neurology clinical department, a department of psychiatry associated with an interventional neuroradiology department and a department of neurosurgery. It is also associated with two Inserm research units: U1012: regulation of the immune response, HIV – 1 infection and autoimmunity and U1169: gene therapy for developmental and degenerative diseases of the central nervous system.

NBPS is the pediatric component of NeurATRIS, with the participation of the department of pediatric neurology and two Inserm units: the department of adult neurology for the medium to long-term monitoring of children participating in innovative therapy trials, the department of  interventional neuroradiology for the study of gene therapy by injection of viral vectors capable of crossing the blood-brain barrier into the intra-cerebral arteries and the department of neurosurgery for direct intervention in the brain.

NBPS includes two platforms: one is dedicated to the selection of childhood central nervous system diseases for clinical gene therapy trials, the second is dedicated to the preclinical evaluation of gene therapy for these diseases in animal and cellular models.

This institute is part of NeurATRIS, the French part of EATRIS.
