A new Erasmus+ project will bring together partners from across Europe to develop an interdisciplinary education programme for equitable cancer care. With EATRIS as a formal partner, ONCOLIGHT builds on connections established through EATRIS-CONNECT, demonstrating how collaboration between research infrastructures can create new opportunities in education and healthcare.
The University of Zagreb School of Medicine has been awarded ONCOLIGHT – Systems Learning for Equitable Cancer Care, funded under the Erasmus+ KA220-HED Cooperation Partnerships in Higher Education programme. The three-year project will run from November 2026 to October 2029, with a total budget of €400,000.
ONCOLIGHT brings together partners from Croatia, the Netherlands, Spain and Türkiye to develop an innovative interdisciplinary educational programme addressing the complexity of modern cancer care. The project will combine blended learning, open educational resources, micro-credentials and a digital learning platform, with a focus on systems thinking, interdisciplinary communication, genomics, artificial intelligence, health policy and evidence-based decision-making.
A particularly interesting dimension of the project is the connection between EATRIS – the European Infrastructure for Translational Medicine and SHARE – the Survey of Health, Ageing and Retirement in Europe. EATRIS is a formal project partner, while the Croatian National Director of SHARE, prof. Šime Smolić based at the Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Zagreb, will be contributing to the project.
This collaboration has its roots in a symposium on ageing organised by the University of Zagreb School of Medicine within the EATRIS-CONNECT project. As the project encourages cooperation between Research Infrastructures at the national level, the School of Medicine chose SHARE as a complementary Research Infrastructure and brought together researchers and experts from different fields to explore shared perspectives on ageing, health, data and healthcare systems. The event created an opportunity to establish new connections and explore potential areas for future collaboration.
The partnership illustrates how activities supported through EATRIS-CONNECT can generate impact beyond research by creating new links between research infrastructures and academic communities.
