EATRIS congratulates Prof. Dr Irena Mlinarič-Raščan, professor at the University of Ljubljana’s Faculty of Pharmacy, and National Director of EATRIS Slovenia on being awarded the prestigious 2026 Zois Recognition for Significant Achievements, one of Slovenia’s highest national honours for scientific excellence.
Announced on 14 October 2026, the recognition acknowledges Prof. Mlinarič-Raščan’s outstanding contributions to pharmacogenomics and the development of targeted therapies for leukaemia.
The research focuses on understanding how genetic differences influence responses to medicines, identifying mechanisms of drug resistance and advancing more personalised and effective treatment approaches.
Prof. Mlinarič-Raščan’s scientific achievements include pioneering work on predicting treatment-related complications, investigating molecular mechanisms underlying leukaemia and applying advanced research methods, including artificial intelligence, to identify new therapeutic targets.
Within the EATRIS-led REMEDi4ALL project, Prof. Mlinarič-Raščan leads research at the University of Ljubljana’s Faculty of Pharmacy exploring new therapeutic applications for existing medicines, particularly in oncology, rare and infectious diseases, with the aim of advancing personalised treatment approaches and addressing unmet medical needs.
Beyond scientific research, under the leadership of Prof. Mlinarič-Raščan, EATRIS Slovenia has taken a leading role in several EATRIS flagship training activities, including EATRIS Summer Schools in Personalised Medicine and Digital Transformation, as well as courses in Advanced Therapy Medicinal Products (ATMPs). These initiatives have contributed to professional development, capacity building and knowledge exchange across the European translational research community, especially for early-career researchers.
EATRIS extends its warmest congratulations to Prof. Mlinarič-Raščan on this distinguished recognition and acknowledges the continued contributions of the EATRIS Slovenian node to scientific excellence, education and European collaboration in translational medicine.
The award ceremony will take place on 8 November 2026 at Cankarjev dom in Ljubljana.
