Congratulations to Avicena Systems who have been awarded ‘Startup of the Year’ at the Australian Information Industry Association (AIIA) Innovation Awards – “The iAwards”. Avicena Systems offers a ground-breaking, rapid, highly accurate mass screening system for COVID-19 and other pathogens. Using simple saliva samples, Sentinel is capable of processing over 90,000 samples daily and delivers results in under 45 minutes. The first Avicena system is currently installed in Spain, with more in progress.
EATRIS helped Avicena install their first Sentinel system, which involves a molecular assay platform offering highly accurate mass screenings for Covid-19 in 35m, in the Biodonostia Health Research Institute in Spain. This collaboration was fostered through the EATRIS Covid-19 Research Forum.
David Morrow (Senior Scientific Programme Manager at EATRIS) says the following: “We are pleased to see the truly innovative work of Avicena rewarded with this well deserved iAward ‘Startup of the Year’ from the AIIA. Being able to facilitate these type of collaborations between our best academic sites and innovative start-ups like Avicena, to help combat the COVID-19 global emergency, is a major part of our mission at EATRIS.”
The iAwards promotes, unearths, recognises and rewards excellence in innovation that is making a difference and has the potential to create positive change for the community – whether this is at home, in the office or on a global scale.
