The Ruđer Bošković Institute (IRB) is Croatia’s premier scientific institution, excelling in the natural and biomedical sciences, as well as marine and environmental research. It aims to foster excellence in scientific research, higher education, and collaboration with the business sector, leveraging outstanding scientific achievements. IRB is involved in over 200 projects, with major funding sourced from European Union projects and other international bodies. Notable collaborations include Horizon Europe, Horizon 2020, IAEA, NATO, FP7, the Croatian Science Foundation (HrZZ), NSF, ICGEB, and various foreign scientific foundations.

With a formidable array of capital scientific research equipment valued at around 20 million euros, IRB is at the forefront in Croatia in terms of the volume and quality of papers published in prestigious international scientific journals. It operates over 80 laboratories and employs more than 700 scientists and researchers, making it a pivotal player in the national research landscape.

IRB’s multidisciplinary approach allows to provide comprehensive solutions to a broad spectrum of socially significant challenges. It has been instrumental in linking scientific research with commercial sectors, enhancing industry applications and innovations in Croatia.
