The Faculty of Medicine Osijek (MEFOS) is a public high education institution, established as an independent institution of the University Josip Juraj Strossmayer of Osijek, continuously providing medical education for 45 years. Primary programs conducted at MEFOS are integrated undergraduate and graduate study programs, encompassing Medicine, Medicine in the German language and Pharmacy. Besides that, MEFOS conducts undergraduate and graduate programs in Medical Laboratory Diagnostics. MEFOS provides postgraduate education via the University Doctoral Program of Biomedicine and Health and different postgraduate programs of professional specialities. Overall, programs enrol more than 1000 students.
MEFOS hosts different research groups that are all dedicated to research excellence. Altogether, more than 240 employees are mostly involved in education/research activities. It is important to emphasise the strong collaboration of MEFOS with University Hospital Centre Osijek (Clinical Hospital Centre), where the majority of our teachers-researchers are employed. This relationship ensures fruitful translation of research activities from basic to clinical. Since 2015 MEFOS has been a participant-leading institution in the National Scientific Centre of Excellence for Personalized Health Care, whose beneficiary is the University of Osijek. A particular emphasis is on exploring, validating, and employing novel biomarkers, particularly in the fields of cardiovascular medicine, clinical biochemistry, immunology and neuroscience.
