University of Split School of Medicine (MEFST) is extensively focused towards excellence in medical education and biomedical research and is recognised for its excellent results in education and scientific research in the field of biomedicine and healthcare. MEFST is one of the most prestigious Schools of Medicine in Croatia with a cutting-edge Centre for translational research in biomedicine (CTRIB). MEFST maintains a question-driven approach to science aiming to gain fundamental insight into biological processes across scales, from cells to tissues to whole organisms. The school comprises of research groups with around 200 research fellows, technicians, PhD students and support staff that maintain the MEFST reputation and global standing with world-class research. The research focus of MEFST is translational research in biomedicine achieved through connecting the fields of basic sciences, public health and clinical sciences. The School wishes to preserve good academic values and practices through the respect of fellow scientists from biomedicine and healthcare and to encourage scientists who are capable of obtaining domestic and international projects that result in the advancement of science, application in the scientific process and improvement of medical activity.

The school’s vision is to improve transnational cooperation, exchange, networking and excellence with the aim of strengthening the environment for research and innovation, creating high-quality new knowledge, strengthening human capital in the field of research and innovation and encouraging the spread of knowledge and open science. The scientific capacities of MEFST and the University of Split together with the University Hospital of Split and other teaching bases of MEFST have a special role in developing and raising the level of translational research in biomedicine as a basic research focus.
