Save the date for the EATRIS-CONNECT Summer School on personalised medicine using digital approaches
There is an increasing number of digital tools and resources available to support researchers who are working in the field of personalised medicine, but determining which tools are most appropriate to use can be challenging. Enabling researchers to learn more about the opportunities and challenges that digital transformation in research present, alongside the ethical application of AI tools, is key to ensuring more rapid progress in personalised medicine. This course, presented by EATRIS Slovenia, led by the University of Ljubliana and supported by the EATRIS-CONNECT project aims to address many of these issues.
Why attend?
This summer school aims to enable participants to explore the role of digital tools in personalised medicine, learning about the opportunities and challenges of applying digital approaches (including ML/AI) to biomedical research and human health. Additionally participants will gain practical experience of digital tools and resources which they could apply to their own work.
Who is it for?
Aimed at early-career researchers (PhD students, early postdoctoral researchers) who are working in biomedical / health research, the summer school does not require any previous knowledge of digital tools or approaches, but background knowledge in biology, biomedical / clinical sciences or bioinformatics would be beneficial.
What will you learn?
At the end of the workshop participants will be able to:
- State the current digital and non-digital approaches in personalised medicine
- Describe the role of AI and digital tools in enhancing personalised medicine
- Define key requirements for data collection and use when working with digital resources eg applying FAIR principles and ethical data use
- Recognise the key role of the patient perspective in designing and employing digital tools
- Discuss the key caveats (including ethical issues) of employing AI and digital tools
- Start to apply key resources and methods introduced during the workshop to their own research/work
Key topics
- Digital transformation and its role in personalised medicine
- Machine learning / AI in medicine
- Ethical considerations of data use including AI
- Digital biomarkers
- Big data
