Reproducibility card sorting exercise

Training activity to support reproducible research

The aim of this card sorting activity is to stimulate conversation around definitions of reproducibility. It was first used as part of a train-the-trainer workshop focussed on reproducibility.

In this exercise, participants are given terms related to reproducibility and potential definitions, which they must match correctly. They must then place these terms into a reproducibility matrix. Once the first two steps are complete, participants are then encouraged to provide some examples from their own research setting to bring the learning to their own context.

This exercise requires about 30 minutes to run with participants in groups of 3-4.

The materials required are available in OSF.

Funding and reuse of materials

This exercise was developed as part of the iRISE project, which included a series of Train the trainer workshops aimed at trainers and support staff who work closely with researchers to encourage reproducible research practices.

All the materials developed and delivered (with the support of the EATRIS training team) are now available for anyone to access through the OSF.io website; a combination of training materials, speaker notes and interactive activities, all made openly available under a CC By 4.0 licence.
