David Morrow, EATRIS Scientific Lead Advanced Therapies, chairs discussion on the “Regions for Health Innovation: Personalised Medicine and ATMPs driving Europe’s Future” event at the European Parliament.

Organised by Biocat within the framework of the EU-funded PRECISEU project (in which EATRIS is a partner), the event gathered over 80 stakeholders, including MEPs, European Commission representatives, patient advocates, industry and research leaders. The discussions focused on placing personalised medicine and advanced therapies (ATMPs) at the centre of Europe’s health innovation agenda to drive competitiveness, cohesion, and equitable access.

David Morrow chaired a panel on European ATMP hubs, featuring speakers from Flanders, Catalonia and the Nordic region. The session explored:

  • The need for European mapping of GMP capacities to enable shared use of infrastructure
  • Cross-border patient pathways for advanced therapies in prioritised indications
  • Collaborative approaches to training and workforce mobility to build critical skills across hubs

These themes align strongly with EATRIS’ work in advancing translational research and cross-border collaboration, particularly through PRECISEU, which aims to strengthen ATMP capacity across Europe.

The event also touched on broader regulatory and data governance issues, including the European Health Data Space, the Pharmaceutical Package, and the upcoming European Biotechnology Law, highlighting the policy landscape that will shape the future of health innovation in Europe.
