The University of Zagreb School of Medicine (UZSM) is the oldest institution for medical education and research in South-East Europe founded in 1917 as a separate legal entity within the University of Zagreb. It has three specialised components:

  1. Center for Translational and Clinical Research,
  2. Andrija Stampar School of Public Health was founded by the first president of the World Health Organisation, Prof. Andrija Stampar and

The school encourages its faculty to participate in international research, particularly in the following research areas: basic and clinical neuroscience including neuroprotection, neuroimaging and neurogenomics; regenerative medicine including bone morphogenetic proteins and biological regeneration of tissues; molecular biology, genomics, proteomics and metabolomics; pharmacogenomics; diagnostic ultrasound (esp. in cardiology and perinatal medicine); transplantation medicine; haematological malignancies; congenital metabolic diseases; clinical endocrinology and diabetes; public health and environmental medicine.

UZSM also closely collaborates with the biggest hospital in Croatia, University Hospital Centre Zagreb, which ensures the translation of knowledge among researchers based in academia and clinics.
