EATRIS joined the “Innovation Mission Japan – AI in Health” from 27 – 30 May 2024, which aimed to explore collaboration around artificial intelligence in healthcare and bring together policy, science, and business. The EATRIS delegation included Emanuela Oldoni (EATRIS Scientific Programme Manager) and Sara Zullino (EATRIS Scientific & SME Outreach Manager). The mission, organised by the Netherlands Enterprise Agency and commissioned by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy, focused on various aspects of AI integration in healthcare.
The Netherlands Enterprise Agency has developed the mission program in collaboration with the Netherlands Innovation Network in Japan and will be focused on oncology. Participants will engage in discussions about Japan’s Society 5.0 vision, digitalisation efforts, and regulatory frameworks that support cancer research. Topics that will be explored include data collection, application development, and. In addition, there will be opportunities to meet key Prof. Yoshizawa and Prof. Nakamura, discuss the challenges in implementing AI solutions in the clinical setting and share best practices between the Netherlands and Japan. Additionally, visits to research centres like CAIST and RIKEN will provide insights into AI’s role in translational research, data analysis, and predictive modelling.
By joining this mission, the EATRIS delegation will:
- Gain insight into the innovation and healthcare ecosystem in Japan.
- Explore trends and opportunities for public-private (research) collaboration between knowledge institutions and/or companies.
