Laboratory Technician in Biomedical Research

Hours 1.5 year fixed-term contract, full-time, start date as soon as possible

The Laboratory Technician will join the LIH’s Department of Infection and Immunity. She/he will work as a technician on immunoglogical projects and carry out broader tasks. She/he will also suggest initiatives to resolve or prevent technical problems in consultation with the project leaders

Key Accountabilities

  • Carry out and optimize experiments in the research laboratory
  • Analyze and report results to the project leaders
  • Monitor the equipment, notify potential technical defaults to the Head of Laboratory or to project leaders
  • Monitor stocks of consumable materials (reception and storage of deliveries, drafting of purchase orders to be signed by the designated persons, research of information on the products to be ordered, etc.)
  • Be able to fast learn new laboratory techniques required for a project
  • Where necessary, suggest areas for improvement for the protocols to be followed

Key Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • Laboratory Technician Diploma (bachelor degree; 3 years’ higher education required) in biology or biomedicine (mandatory)
  • Rigor, team work, motivation, sense of initiative
  • Practical experience in the areas of cell culture (primary and/or cell line), human PBMC isolation, flow cytometry, basic molecular biology, immunology/neuroimmunology is an asset
  • Practical experience in murine experiments (preferred inflammatory/autoimmune related diseases) is an asset
  • Languages: fluent command of English mandatory, knowledge in German or French is an asset
